In March we launched the enrollment process for the new school group (6-10 years). Because we are an atypical, agile school: we learn the self-directed way, through projects, through discovery, and all the time through experience, it is important for us that the families get to know us through experience and not through information. This is why we organised an Agile Learning day for parents and a green experiential learning week for children.
On March 23rd, community parents and parents wishing to join the community spent the day together to understand, through their own experiences and with the help of those who already have children in Green School, how learning takes place in our school. We met, set intentions, made offers and requests for activities, then we chose to engage and facilitate. We have also been able to enjoy nature and take a moment of reflection on different subjects. That's how we spent a day discussing topics of interest to those in the group, with games, yoga, magic, design and innovation games, drawing and discussion about Green's educational model. Between April 1 and 5, Green School hosted the little explorers of school life alongside with two of Green's educators: Sonia and Sorana. The children lived a typical week in the Green School, had a morning session in which they talked about themselves, what they feel, what emotions are, what sort of emotions they have lived and want to live on. Also in the morning sessions they made requests and offers of activities. Dinosaurs (because that's the name they chose) got to know each other through games, they explored Green School, they interacted with the other Green students. Among the activities listed on the kanban by the Dinosaurs, we found at "finished": craft, drawing, painting, gardening (planting vegetables, spices and flowers), climbing trees, playing on the hill, reading, playing with the projector using letters and geometric shapes. Besides these activities, children learned about the guiding principles of Green School, about their responsibilities towards their own person, their colleagues and the community, they discovered the world of the inner emotions and emotions of their group. It was a week full of adventures and happiness, mixed with the pleasant fatigue of things that lived at their full. One of the Green School principles is "my opinion counts," and these experiences for children and their parents will help them have a much clearer view on what is and how we learn in Green School, so thy can take their decision about the enrollment on the basis of a large number arguments.
